S34 chair Mart Stam Thonet brown netweave
€375,00
S34 chair by Mart Stam for Thonet in brown netweave.
with armrest (S33 is without armrest);
This netweave fabric has almost exactly the same tone/colour as the Eisengarn fabric that was used to upholster these chairs when they were first made / designed in the late 1920s;
chromed tubular steel frame floating or cantilever chair;
pleasant flexing effect makes these chairs very comfortable to sit in;
In the late twenties Mart Stam was guest lecturer at the Bauhaus (’28 & ’29) where Marcel Breuer was “inspired” by Mart Stam’s designs. Marcel had better connections and was more market minded so for long time he was incorrectly considered the inventor of the cantilever chair.
these chairs are still in production at Thonet to this day;
Dutch design classic!
Bauhaus modernist cubic form;
vintage, retro, mid-century modern,
twenties, 20s, 1920s, seating,
all of the chair’s upholstery is damaged at the point where they meet the table, someone was to enthusiastic when organising the dining/meeting room; hence the low price
