S34 Cantilever Chair Mart Stam rare early

Sold

S34 Cantilever Chair by Mart Stam, very rare early original screwed model

possibly made under licence to Lorenz/Thonet by Mücke Melder or Slezák; often mistakenly credited to Marcel Breuer

original Eisengarn (iron yarn) (iron yarn) fabric in blue

nickel chromed tubular steel frame, with screws

armrests painted over many times, which means the original wood has been protected over the last 75 or so years and is probably in very good condition, and will be beautiful if you chose to strip and restore the original finish

underneath, cross member(s) look hand made, as do the holes they click into
one cross member is missing and the fabric is letting lose in the left front (easily repaired) hence the sale price

from private collection, very early model: screwed together, not welded; ends of tubes very nicely caped and welded; from the 1930s

thirties, Bauhaus, vintage, retro mid-century modern

arm heigh: 66 cm
tube diameters: frame, arm & legs: 2,2 cm; back & seat sides: 2 cm
