Globe Wernicke Barrister Coat and Cane Stand in solid mahogany.

Otto Wernicke designed his world famous “Elastic” modular stacking book shelf system in 1890 (patented in 1892). Taken over in 1899 by the Globe Files Company, who made office furniture, they came up with the Globe-Wernicke office suite, which has been in production more or less ever since. The company has been merged and acquired many times, and apparently the Indonesian Division is still at work. We recently acquired a complete Globe Wernicke Indonesian Division office suite, and this came with it. I have no proof that this was actually made by Globe Wernicke, but it goes well with the set. Other items listed below.

Large, meant to impress. Nice big solid chunks of rounded mahogany, sturdy and well made.

Since there are only two brass hooks I think this is meant for walking sticks and canes, of the sort used by people who frequent Barrister’s offices.

Nice boardroom, office, library or meeting room accessory.

Art Deco, vintage, retro victorian lawyer/jurist style.
